Cultural Significance of Our Regalia

Honoring Tradition, Embracing Everyday Wear

At Aboriginal Design Wear, every piece we create carries deep cultural significance, serving as a living connection to First Nation traditions. Our regalia is more than clothing—it is a powerful expression of identity, ceremony, and celebration. Each garment reflects generations of artistry and storytelling, preserving the authenticity of our culture while sharing its beauty with the world.

Jingle Dresses
The jingle dress is a symbol of healing and resilience, traditionally worn during powwows as a sacred dance outfit. Adorned with rows of metal cones, or "jingles," the dress creates a rhythmic sound with every movement, believed to carry prayers to the Creator. Originating in Anishinaabe culture, the jingle dress dance remains a powerful representation of strength, spirituality, and connection to tradition.

Traditional Dresses
Traditional dresses are crafted with meaning, often worn during ceremonies, gatherings, and celebrations. Each piece reflects personal and cultural identity, with intricate patterns symbolizing connections to family, land, and spirit. Passed down through generations, the craftsmanship behind these dresses ensures that Indigenous traditions remain vibrant and alive.

Fancy Dance Outfits
Worn during the high-energy Fancy Dance at powwows, these outfits are designed to enhance movement with vibrant colors, intricate beadwork, and flowing fringe. This dance embodies joy, celebration, and resilience, symbolizing the ability of Indigenous cultures to adapt and thrive while honoring ancestral roots.

Ribbon Skirts & Ribbon Pants
Ribbon skirts and pants are symbols of strength, identity, and pride within First Nation communities. The ribbons woven into the fabric represent connections to nature, spirituality, and protection. Whether worn in ceremony or as a daily expression of empowerment, these garments honor both tradition and contemporary Indigenous fashion.

Leather Belts
Handcrafted with care, our leather belts blend functionality with artistry. Featuring traditional beadwork and hand-tooled designs, they represent a connection to the land and the animals that provided the leather. Wearing these belts is a way of honoring Indigenous craftsmanship and our relationship with the natural world.

Beaded Earrings
Every pair of beaded earrings tells a story, using colors and patterns that reflect elements of Indigenous heritage—whether inspired by nature, spirituality, or personal identity. Crafted with traditional techniques passed down through generations, these earrings are a celebration of culture, history, and resilience.

Beyond regalia, we also design contemporary pieces that bring Indigenous artistry into everyday wear. From jackets to accessories, these items are created for modern lifestyles while staying true to the spirit of traditional craftsmanship. As we continue to introduce new designs, no two pieces are ever the same—each is a unique work of art, carrying the stories and traditions of our people.
